What Happens to Your Body on a Hike? I Tested It with a Suunto Watch

I put on a Suunto watch and ran a real experiment: What actually happens to your body during a day hike… and how does that compare to backpacking with a full overnight load?

Using heart rate, cadence, HRV, sleep scores, resource levels, and recovery data, I measured:

🔸 Cardiovascular strain
🔸 Cardiac drift
🔸 Eccentric muscle load
🔸 Stress vs recovery
🔸 Sleep quality in a tent vs an RV vs at home
🔸 How fast the body “rebuilds” afterward

If you’ve ever wondered how hiking really affects your body — and whether backpacking is harder, healthier, or just different…
