Majorly abounded with Sal trees, the forest in Bargarh district of Odisha was declared a sanctuary in the year 1985. The sanctuary has a unique location on the banks of the famous Hirakud Reservoir, which stretches more than 30 kilometres in length and 15 kilometres in breadth, with an average depth of 5 metres water level. This dry deciduous forests and its surrounding water body is rich in wild animals and birds.
