I visited Yuasa, a town under three hours by train from Osaka, to check out its history as the birthplace of Japanese soy sauce … and for a scoop of soy sauce ice cream. And even met soy sauce man (the thumbnail dude).

The soy family might have originated in China, but it’s Japanese soy sauce that has become the global standard.
