Save 40% on select award redemptions to Europe, Tokyo and Singapore

Singapore Airlines has a reputation for offering an exceptional product, but booking long-haul, premium cabin awards with the airline can be tricky. You can sometimes find award availability through Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan or Air Canada Aeroplan, but you’ll usually find the most through Singapore Airlines’ own KrisFlyer loyalty program.

KrisFlyer generally charges more miles than other programs, even on dates when saver awards are available. However, the program offers discounts on select award flights each month through its KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion.

To celebrate Singapore’s 60th birthday, KrisFlyer is offering an elevated 40% discount for bookings made over the first 60 hours of the promotion, until 11:59 p.m. Singapore local time (11:59 a.m. EDT) on Aug. 17.

For bookings made after the 60-hour period, the new promo offers the standard 30% discount if you reserve by Aug. 31 and travel between Sept. 1 and 30. You’ll find discounted award tickets to select destinations in the Singapore Airlines network.

Here’s how you can maximize this iteration of KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes.

Earning miles to book this award flight

Earning Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles is easy. The program is a 1:1 transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One, Citi ThankYou Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards. KrisFlyer is also a 3:1 transfer partner of Marriott Bonvoy, with 5,000 bonus miles offered for every 60,000 points you transfer.

Note that the transferred rewards may take up to 24 hours (or longer for Marriott transfers) to hit your KrisFlyer account. If they don’t immediately appear, consider calling KrisFlyer to hold award seats until the miles post. Doing so will lock in your award seats so you won’t have to worry about the availability disappearing. KrisFlyer generally charges a service fee of $25 or 2,500 miles to hold award seats.

When booking your flight, consider using one of the following cards to pay any taxes and fees to further maximize your purchase:

Bottom line

If you’ve been eyeing a trip to Europe, Tokyo or Singapore, now’s the time to act. Singapore KrisFlyer is offering a rare 40% discount on select economy and premium economy award redemptions — but only if you book by 11:59 a.m. EDT on Aug. 17. That’s when the best deals vanish, and the discount drops to 30% for the rest of the month. With one-way awards starting at just 15,000 miles plus taxes and fees, seats will go fast.

These flights can be a great use of transferable credit card points and miles.
