Yesterday, Lodgify brought together vacation rental hosts, industry leaders, and technology innovators from around the world for the first-ever Independent Host Summit—a groundbreaking online event designed to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of independent hosts.

What is the Independent Host Summit?

Lodgify created the Independent Host Summit to give hosts the tools, strategies, and inspiration they need to start and scale their short-term rental businesses on their own terms.

Over the course of four hours, more than 10 expert speakers shared actionable tactics and real-world insights on everything from building direct booking foundations to leveraging automation, AI, and data-driven decision-making.

It was the largest online gathering for independent hosts yet—uniting thousands of attendees eager to take control of their businesses and grow with purpose.

The sessions: from first bookings to full-fledged brands

The day kicked off with an inspiring keynote, “The Independent Host Manifesto,” led by Lodgify CEO Shaun Shirazian, who set the tone by emphasizing Lodgify’s mission to help hosts achieve true independence. From there, the event was broken down into three main sections.

Starting strong: foundations and fundamentals

The first section of the event included thought-provoking talks, practical advice, and insider expertise all about getting started as a vacation rental host:

• Kerri Gibson of Chalets Hygge shared her story of taking “The Hosting Leap of Faith” and building a thriving brand that achieves 70% direct bookings.
• Jaclyn Candela from Airbnb offered insights on “Building Momentum: Getting Booked Early and Often,” providing attendees with proven strategies to attract guests year-round.
• Gus Machado, Lodgify’s Chief Product and Design Officer, unpacked “The Art of Multi-Channels,” showing hosts how to maximize bookings with less hassle.

Getting real (and professional): efficiency and control

After a short break, the summit continued with a focus on gaining efficiency and control:

• Mercedes Sánchez of MBX Homes walked attendees through “Taming the Hosting Storm,” discussing how to maintain control and professionalism while growing.
• Saad Dar from Baselane explained how tech and automation are redefining real estate banking for hosts and property managers.
• Ian Ackland of Booking.com gave insights into traveler trends, demonstrated how Booking.com’s genAI-enhanced search tool works for travelers, and shared some recent product updates that facilitate hosting.
• Ryan Saylor from Beyond shared ways for hosts to plan smarter, price better, and stress less in 2026 with the use of AI tools and other tech solutions.
• Dart Bebel from Turno dove into how automation is reshaping short-term rental operations and giving hosts their time back.

Dream big and host bigger: scaling and innovation

The summit wrapped up with a forward-looking series of sessions focused on scaling, design, and innovation, offering practical insights for hosts ready to grow their business:

• Sharon Biggar of PriceLabs showed hosts how to use data and analytics to make smarter decisions and highlighted the three most important metrics to track.
• Brianna Amigo of Brianna Michele Interiors shared tips for designing guest-focused spaces that combine comfort, wellness, and long-term durability.
• Anila Hasaj, Gus Machado, and Shaun Shirazian from Lodgify highlighted new tools and product innovations designed to make independent hosting easier, more efficient, and scalable.
