Finally, an airline job I’m qualified for… 😉
Alaska hiring leader for loyalty inflight engagement
It’s always fun to keep an eye on job postings at airlines. Along those lines, Alaska Air Group is hiring for an interesting role that I think some OMAAT readers might find entertaining, at a minimum (or might even be interested in applying for!).
The airline is hiring for the role of “Manager, Loyalty Inflight Engagement.” Here’s the job description and key duties:
The Manager, Loyalty Inflight Engagement leads the employee engagement strategy for Atmos Rewards co-brand credit card products, driving strategy, operations, and marketing to deepen engagement among employees, with a primary focus on the inflight team.
This role is responsible for developing and executing strategies that empower flight attendants and other employees to confidently represent the Atmos Rewards Visa Card program. Key responsibilities include managing field marketing initiatives, overseeing training and communication programs, and partnering closely with internal teams (Loyalty, Inflight, Airport Operations, Lounge) and external stakeholders (Bank of America, activation vendors) to deliver consistent results.
Success in this role will be measured by growth in Flight Attendant participation, seamless operational integration, and the clarity and impact of program reporting to leadership.
Key duties include:
- Lead team in establishing operational processes for program execution, including scheduling, incentive tracking, and compliance with Bank and internal marketing requirements with a 6-12 month horizon.
- Develop strategies to equip Flight Attendants with tools, training, and resources to confidently and effectively promote the program.
- Establish and maintain KPI reporting for employee engagement, leveraging insights to recommend and implement targeting, testing, and program enhancements that improve results.
- Ensure all inflight engagement activities are integrated smoothly into flight attendant workflows without disrupting the operation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Inflight leaders and Bank of America partners, fostering open communication to surface and resolve issues quickly.
- Lead, coach, or influence a cross-functional team (including project specialists, inflight ambassadors, or vendor field staff) to ensure consistent execution of engagement programs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, bank partners, and leadership to align acquisition goals, develop program strategies, and justify ROI for investments in engagement campaigns.
- Models a participatory and team-oriented leadership style, while still effecting change.
- Works with direct/indirect to maintain a culture of continuous improvement.
- Promotes a high performance culture by cultivating and motivating direct/indirect reports through coaching, mentoring, and by providing regular and meaningful feedback.
- Identifies and provides career development opportunities through developmental assignments and formal/informal training.
- Plan and execute regular events to increase awareness of new promotions, special incentives, and new credit card offers.
The job requirements include five years of experience in program management or marketing, and two years of leadership experience. The salary range is $117,850 to $176,800 per year.

Credit cards are big businesses for airlines (and employees!)
We all know that in the United States, a large percentage of airline profits come from loyalty programs. For an airline of its size, Alaska is in a league of its own when it comes to the upside it has from its loyalty program.
Airlines use all kinds of channels for promoting credit cards, including promoting them online, at airports, and onboard flights. At many airlines, it’s common for flight attendants to make credit card pitches. That makes perfect sense — they have a captive and engaged audience, and many people also have some spare time to apply for a card while flying.
There’s also a ton of upside for flight attendants here, as they get paid a commission when people get approved for cards. I know at least at American, there was a point where a small number of flight attendants were making almost as much from promoting credit cards as they were from their regular pay.
If I recall correctly, Alaska has long promoted credit cards inflight, though with the launch of the Atmos Rewards program, plus the integration of Hawaiian Airlines, I imagine there’s a lot of potential to expand that part of the business.

Bottom line
Alaska Airlines is hiring a Manager for Loyalty Inflight Engagement. While this is in theory a broad role, I imagine the primary responsibility here is to manage and expand inflight credit card pitches, to achieve the best results.
I know in the miles & points world, people have a lot of opinions on these inflight pitches, so if you want to try your hand with this initiative, this could be a job to apply for!
