Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s take on serious cinema in India

Saeed Akhtar Mirza says “Actually I really don’t know but I can give you a kind of conjecture. The conjecture was that there were the earlier filmmakers around like the works of Bhuvan Shome, mani Kaul, Kumar Shahani which preceded us and films of G. Arivindan and Adoor Gopalakrishnan. That was the kind one felt that it is possible to sort of attempt to get into the medium with a certain kind of seriousness of intent. I think that was the reason there were examples before us.”
